Taylor Sounds in Budapest

Taylor University Professor of Music Dr. JoAnn Rediger, along with Taylor students Courtney Jameson and Haley Kurr, spent Spring Break in Europe where they led eighty-five auditioned high school singers through eighteen hours of rehearsal over four days at the Honors Music Festival in Prague, Czech Republic.

The student choir, which was comprised of singers from from Moscow, Madrid, England, Istanbul and other European cities, sang two concerts in an old cathedral in the heart of the city. Rediger said rich, real friendships were forged and students were inspired to go beyond average to excellence, and realize the best that God has to offer in music and in themselves.

The Taylor Sounds vocal ensemble joined them and the group went on to perform at three Christian High Schools in Prague; Vienna, Austria; and Budapest, Hungary and in two churches in Czech Republic and Hungary. They attended a Mozart opera in German in Vienna, sang at a Korean Cultural Center in Budapest, saw a Hungarian Folk Dance performance, and enjoyed a late-night dinner cruise on the blue Danube.

Rediger said she and the Taylor Sounds are grateful for the opportunity and that they learned more about themselves and the global Kingdom of God through music and new friendships.

The Sounds will sing their tour concert in a free joint performance with the Heritage Christian High School Choir from Indianapolis, in the Recital Hall in Smith Hermanson Music Center on Tuesday, April 15, at 7:30 pm.
