I double majored in professional writing and public relations, and actually graduated in three years thanks to my high school’s dual credit program. I wasn’t ready to leave Upland yet, and have shared an apartment with one of my close Taylor friends while she finished her senior year. I currently work remotely as the digital operations and marketing associate for The Experiment publishing. I’m also getting married in December of 2022 which is exciting! I love reading, writing, playing games with friends, and my golden retriever.
I loved my time at Taylor and will always treasure it. Some highlights included the Greece and Italy trip, leading a small group on my floor (Third Breu—the perfect spot for me!), attending all of the fun traditions like Silent Night and AirBand, and one professor actualizing my dream to attend a TV writing seminar. I’ve met my best friends at TU and I’m so thankful for the experiences we could share together.
I genuinely think the professors at TU are what set it apart from other schools. My fiancé attended a state school and was regularly astounded by how much the professors cared about me and invested in me. He couldn’t believe we’d actually go to professors’ houses either! I can’t even count the number of times communications professors prayed with me, counseled me, offered great advice, and provided an excellent, personalized learning environment. Their educational instruction and personal relationships have been priceless.
Foundational core is another aspect that makes Taylor unique. It was so valuable to stretch myself in my weaker areas—and sometimes made me thankful for how naturally my major work came to me versus something like geology. I loved having the opportunity to meet professors in other disciplines, and I was able to connect with other students I wouldn’t have met otherwise. A bachelor’s degree from Taylor means you’ve put in the hard work to be a well-rounded, well-educated student ready to work alongside anyone, anywhere.
Right now, enjoy every single day on campus no matter how stressful. This is the only time in your life you’ll have such immediate access to the best students, faculty, and staff you could ever meet. It’s so worth putting in the hard work. Your Taylor degree will get you in the door. Taylor alumni are thriving in so many different fields and states/countries (please join LinkedIn and connect with them!). The Communications department prepared me so well for a career with interviewing, resumes, portfolios, and honing the actual skills needed to succeed. I always prayed, “Lord, please open the doors that are meant to be open, and close the doors that are meant to be closed.” My post-graduation experience looked so different than what I expected, but God’s providence was all over it. Stay coachable, and keep your heart and mind soft to all you have to learn. Good luck!
