I graduated Taylor in 2012 with a BS in Environmental Science and minor in Biology. After graduation I married Jillian King (2010). We moved to Michigan, and I began working for the family business, Wynalda Packaging. Our initial plan was to use this job as a starting point and eventually pursue a career with the Department of Natural Resources. However, God had a different plan. I am still working with the family business and loving every minute of it. Jill and I have three kids: JD, Tyler and Lindsey. They mean the world to us. One day, we hope they will walk the sidewalks of Taylor as well.
The most valuable experience I had at Taylor was being a PA for two years. The topics and issues that I had to work through gave me invaluable knowledge on how to handle situations and people. Other notable experiences include the Black Hills summer course, Russia and Guatemala Spring Break Trips, and of course time spent on 1EW.
The insight and discussion given to specific topics impacted my growth throughout my years at Taylor. The Biblical view placed on topics was always one of my favorites. How do you handle or work through a topic like "The age of the Earth" when your textbook declares millions of years, but Biblically (genealogically) states the Earth is much younger? Through these types of discussion, I was taught how to think critically, do research, and defend my beliefs. I was not just told to take someone's word for it, but I was shown how to find out for myself.
The education and foundational core taught at Taylor University gave me a very strong base from which to launch my career and start a family. Without this strong base it would have been very difficult for me to switch career paths and follow what God had called me to do. It also would have been difficult to focus on my wife and family through the changes that have occurred.
