Associate Professor of Journalism, Executive Director of the Pulliam Journalism Center
"The impact of public ownership, profits, and competition on number of newsroom employees and starting salaries in mid-sized daily newspapers" Journalism & Mass Communication Quarterly, Volume 80 Issue 4, December 2003
I am passionate about helping students gain knowledge and hands-on expertise in the classroom, on campus media and from off campus media internships, as they prepare to enter the world as salt and light truth-tellers with a capital "T."
I enjoy reading fiction by authors such as John Grisham, Frank Peretti, and Jerry Jenkins. I am also a fan of historical biographies, such as recently published ones on President Ulysses S. Grant and Jack London. I also enjoy time with family, following politics, playing chess, and traveling. When I was 16, I did a solo flight in a Piper Colt 2-seater canvas-covered airplane.
