Dr. Wetzel enjoys teaching at Taylor because of the opportunities to integrate faith and learning. He enjoys helping students think “Christianly” about American history, especially the role that religious people have played in it.
Dr. Wetzel studies the intersection of American religious, political, and intellectual history in the period from 1860 to 1920. He is currently at work on two book projects. The first, a religious biography of Theodore Roosevelt, will be published by Oxford University Press in 2021. The second, a study of American Christian commentary on the Civil War, Spanish-American War, and World War I, is under contract with Cornell University Press. It is expected in 2022.
In his spare time, Dr. Wetzel enjoys spending time with his wife and watching all kinds of sports.
