Assistant Professor of Art Education & Pre-Art Therapy
I have had the opportunity to teach in the K-12 classroom for 11 years. During this time I worked in a wide range of education settings in rural, suburban, and urban settings. I have presented at art education conferences across the country including the Pennsylvania Art Education Association and Indiana Art Education Association Conference. Currently I am on the board of directors for the Indiana Art Education Association.
Book Chapter: Restorative Practices in Art Education, Art Pedagogical Practice for Preventative Care through Social-Emotional Learning, Davis Publishing, 2024.
Studying Art Education at Taylor opened up a world of opportunities for me. I have been able to apply the theoretical and practical knowledge I learned during my classes and student teaching to my very own art classroom. In the many settings I have taught, I have observed how art can be therapeutic for students struggling with transitions, struggles, and anxiety. My masters research has explored instructional strategies to build self-regulating skills in elementary art students to more confidently make art despite challenges. I am thrilled to be able to bring my love of teaching, back to Taylor and impact many more art settings through future Taylor art educators and art therapists.
Taylor is a unique place that provides opportunity to join a love of God and a professional practice. I count it as a privilege to help students understand the specific gifts that God has given them, and how they can use those gifts to love others through their profession. I get to practically share what it means to put 1 Corinthians 16:14 into practice, "Let all that you do be done in love."
