Professor of Mathematics
Dr. Colgan has taught in the Mathematics Department at Taylor for twenty years, during which time he has served as department chair and associate dean. As department chair, he has enjoyed leading a special group of mathematics faculty who are outstanding teachers, distinguished scholars, and dedicated servants. As associate dean, he helped give direction to the plans for the new Euler Science Center. He appreciates the outstanding students we have at Taylor, and he enjoys teaching mathematics education courses and also calculus, statistics, and investigations. He often makes professional presentations on ways to involve students in fun activities and projects that build community in the mathematics classroom. He has served in various leadership roles at Taylor, including as a Fellow for the Center for Teaching and Learning Excellence (CTLE). A long-time Bible quiz coach and quizmaster at his church, he is also a member of the Free Methodist Bible Quizzing Hall of Fame.
I have enjoyed serving as a Bible quiz coach and quizmaster for many years at our local Free Methodist Church. We quiz each season over a book(s) of the Bible, and study about one chapter per week. I enjoy the opportunity to memorize Scripture, something which I also include in my math classes. My family and I are also big basketball and football fans. We follow the Indiana Hoosiers and Indianapolis Colts.
My family and I always enjoy visiting the Smoky Mountains for family vacations. We spent a week there with our extended family, when we were chosen to be featured in a PBS television show called Getting Away Together. We enjoy hiking in the Great Smoky Mountains and other state and national parks.
