Taylor University Wins MATH Challenge

The Taylor University Mathematics Department has won the annual Michigan Autumn Take-Home (MATH) Challenge. The contest, conducted late in the fall semester each year, is directed by Albion College in Michigan.

Taylor’s team, comprised of students Jordan Crawford, Drew Anderson, and Alexander McFarland, scored 60 points to finish first in the 52-team field. Wheaton College and Illinois Wesleyan University tied for second place with 39 points. The Taylor team was coached by Drs. Derek Thompson and Daniel Rodman.

Teams of two or three students take the three-hour exam consisting of 10 problems dealing with topics and concepts found in the undergraduate mathematics curriculum. Each team takes the exam on their home campus under the supervision of a faculty advisor.

Results normally take two to three weeks to compile.
