Taylor University will observe the federal holiday honoring the late Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., on Monday, January 17, 2022, with worship services, music, and workshops.

The theme of the day’s events is “Expressions,” and the featured chapel speakers will be Janell and Aaron Lane, co-founders of Courageous Healing, Inc., a mental health services organization in Fort Wayne, Indiana. Courageous Healing provides mental health services for black, indigenous, people of color (BIPOC) using a culturally-centered approach.

Additional activities for the day include a series of workshops that range from theatrical and musical themes to lament, have prayer, explore cross-cultural team building, and a discussion of Harper Lee's Pulitzer winning novel To Kill a Mockingbird.

This marks the 30th year for Taylor to honor the life and work of the late civil rights leader. In keeping with tradition, campus officials have suspended the regular schedule of classes to allow students and faculty to take part in the day’s events.

The events are not open to the public due to the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic.
