Taylor University’s Envision Film Festival Features Entertainment Industry Professionals

Taylor University’s Envision Film Festival (March 10-12) will highlight the best work of the year from Taylor student filmmakers and offer several days of free film workshops. Guests will include feature film and television Unit Production Manager Tim Kerigan, Los Angeles documentary filmmaker and podcast host Larissa Lam, and Taylor’s own Professor of Art, Jamie Miles.

Lam will show her award-winning documentary Far East Deep South on March 10 at 7 pm in Cornwall Auditorium. The film, which recently premiered on PBS, explores the largely untold history of Chinese immigrants living in the American South during the late 1800s to mid-1900s and details the journey of Lam’s own relatives journey from California to Mississippi where surprising revelations change their family forever.

Kerigan, a Taylor alumnus, will host a workshop about the people who work on-set for film and television in what’s known as “the production office.” Kerigan’s own role as a unit production manager is one of the production office staff members. In a second workshop, he will explain how films and television shows translate a script into a budget and schedule using industry-standard software.

Miles will teach a workshop on Blender, the 3D computer graphics software toolset used for animated films, visual effects, virtual reality, and computer games.

The year’s best fiction films and documentaries made by Taylor students will screen on March 11 at 7 pm at the Rediger Chapel/Auditorium in the LaRita Boren Campus Center. After the films, an awards ceremony will showcase the winners of this year’s competition, as judged by Taylor film alumni.

Taylor’s Film & Media Arts program has won more than 600 external awards, including CINEs, Tellys and multiple recognitions from the regional Emmy organization. This year, Taylor received its first national College Television Award from the Academy of Television Arts and Sciences in Hollywood, winning a $10,000 prize for a film about an Indiana Paralympian.
