The Taylor University Lyric Theatre will present a full production of the Mozart opera, Cosi fan tutte, or The School for Lovers, in English translation in the Butz Carruth Recital Hall in the Smith-Hermanson Music Building on February 3-5.
Cosi fan tutte premiered in 1790 and was set in the city of Naples, Italy. Taylor’s rendition is in an updated setting: 1968 Florida, during the space race and hippie movement.
Described as “a high-energy comedy,” Cosi fan tutte handles the heavy subject of human brokenness in a predominantly humorous way, while including moments of sincere emotion. Set to music by one of history’s most famous composers, The School for Lovers is the story of two couples and their respective transformations from a state of naïve idealism to one of more mature understanding about human nature and relationships.
Tickets are $10 and are available at the door or in advance at the Music Office by calling 765-998-5232. Friday and Saturday performances are at 7:30 pm, and the Sunday matinee is at 2 pm.
