WBCL 90.3, a radio ministry of Taylor University, received the title of most-listened-to radio station in Fort Wayne, Indiana, by Nielsen ratings. Playing family-friendly and commercial-free Christian music, WBCL has been in the top three Fort Wayne-area radio stations for many years and has recently claimed the #1 spot.
“We’re driven to do the best radio we can, so the most people possible will listen – because we believe we have the best message on the planet. It’s the gospel, the Good News!” said Ross McCampbell, WBCL’s executive director. “It’s not our main priority to be #1 in a ratings system, but we look at it as validation that, yes, we are reaching people and connecting with listeners.”
Fort Wayne area TV station WANE TV produced a news segment on WBCL’s recent accolade.
The WBCL team works hard to connect with listeners both on and off the air. The music and messages are designed to reach people at all stages of life, with particular emphasis on mothers who are raising families. They regularly hear stories from listeners of how God used a song or brief message from the station to speak truth into their lives.
“We see ourselves as an extension of the Church,” said McCampbell. He estimates that approximately 100,000 people are tuning in at any one time, depending on the day of the week and time of day.
Founded in 1976, WBCL is 100% listener-supported but maintains affiliation with Taylor University through an advisory board and FCC licensing agreements. Listen online at wbcl.org.
