Music Education (Major)

Are you passionate about teaching music and impacting the lives of children and teens through music?

Inspire the next generation to love and appreciate music. Taylor’s Music Education program will provide you with the educational training to teach the fundamentals, history, theory, and practice music to grades Preschool-12. This program provides certification for either Instrumental/General PreK-12 or Choral/General PreK-12, approved by the Indiana Department of Education and accredited by the Council for the Accreditation of Educator Preparation.

Begin assisting in local music classrooms during your freshman year. You’ll gain more teaching responsibility over the next few years, culminating with student teaching full time during your senior year. The semester is split between two placements in different schools, teaching different grade levels. You will learn to adjust your lessons based on a student’s musical experience, approach the assessment of musical ability, manage a classroom, and implement education methods. By the time you graduate from Taylor, you will be confident in the classroom and ready to conduct middle school or high school ensembles.
