Find Your Place

You’re looking for strong academics and you want to explore the big questions. But you also enjoy good relationships—with other people and with God. You want your professors to know their stuff, but you’d also like them to get to know you. If that’s you, Taylor’s Philosophy program might be your place.

So, why study philosophy at Taylor?

Looking for a top-notch philosophy program? Do you love the Lord Jesus Christ and want to do philosophy in light of who He is? If so, here are some reasons why Taylor might be a great fit for you.

  • Career Preparation and Flexibility

Flexibility to fit your interests and pursue your career aspirations.

  • Emphasis on Relationships

Study in a place where you're individually known and valued.

  • Christ and Philosophy

Go deep with your questions, but always in the light of Christ.

  • Exceptional Experiences

Study abroad, network with alumni, be a part of Ethics Bowl, and more.

Career Preparation and Flexibility

With only 31 credits needed, Philosophy students easily double-major, explore other interests, or focus on pre-professional preparation for law, business, or medicine. You'll get Philosophy-specific career-planning sessions, pursue internships, and connect with Taylor's extensive alumni network.

Emphasis on Relationships

You’ll never be just a number at Taylor. At many schools, it’s hard to connect with your professors—much less spend time at their homes. It’s different here. We have a freshman Faith & Philosophy class that meets at each professor’s home. There’s an annual cookout, a Christmas party, and a yearly retreat. You'll have opportunities to work on faculty-led research projects and take international trips led by Philosophy professors.

Christ and Philosophy

At Taylor, we never duck our heads in the sand. We read the most influential philosophers, including some opposed to Orthodox Christian faith. But we always help students process those discussions in light of the authoritative Word of God and a vibrant discipleship-oriented community.

Taylor’s Philosophy professors each studied at biblically-grounded seminaries before earning our Philosophy PhDs. We cultivate graduates  who interact with philosophy as as a committed, well-informed followers of our Lord Jesus Christ. That makes our approach unique, even among Christian universities.

Exceptional Experiences

  • From studying with Taylor Philosophy professors in Spain or South Africa to joining our National Championship Ethics Bowl team, from studying at Oxford or in Ireland to attending Philosophy conferences with professors and fellow students, you'll enjoy abundant opportunities for study, growth and fun.

Each class provided really rich discussion that was fascinating and exciting at the same time! We were not just learning as individuals, but we were learning together as a community.

  • Rachel Jonker

    Class of 2011

Studying philosophy at Taylor impressed upon me that the truth need not hide from questions, no matter how difficult. It helped me process my big questions more productively and honed my critical thinking skills.

  • Trayvon Estey

    Class of 2019

My goal for now is to be able to understand philosophical concepts, break down the arguments and teach them to others. I hope to be able to teach someone how to discover who they are in regards to every aspect of their lives.

  • Luke Seeman

    Class of 2022

Being a Taylor student in Spain and Ecuador forced me to use the material I learned in class every day, to see and experience God in new ways, and to craft meaningful relationships with the people around me.

  • Mark Taylor

The greatest benefit of studying philosophy at Taylor has been the chance to see how Christian belief and a thriving intellectual life can not only coexist but strengthen one another.
