Literature (Minor)

Broaden your worldview and increase your appreciation for literary works from various eras.

Explore Early English, Renaissance, Restoration and Eighteenth Century, Romantic, Victorian, and Modern British Literature, and American Literature of all eras. You’ll consider the impact of race and ethnicity and delve deeply into various genres of literature. English students are encouraged to take part in the Literary London January term academic trip – every English literature lover’s dream experience!   

The critical analysis and cultural awareness skills you develop from examining literature will cross over into valuable traits required of many careers. A Literature minor is ideal for Education majors, Business majors, Professional Writing majors, Strategic Communication majors, and many others.  

Students majoring in English with a Literature concentration cannot add a Literature minor.

  • Literary London January Trip

    This study tour, offered during the January term, allows students to study the works of major British authors and also to visit the homes and locations that inspired their literature. In the past, authors have included Jane Austen, C.S. Lewis, J.R.R. Tolkein, Thomas Hardy, Charles Dickens, Samuel Johnson, Shakespeare, and others. Most of the trip is centered in London, with trips to Oxford, Stratford-upon-Avon, Edinburgh, and other locations enriching the experience.
