Cultivate a heart for social and biblical justice
Social work and sociology are purpose-driven degrees of study that seek to help people and improve social situations. You’ll learn to ask tough questions, critically analyze societal systems, and take practical steps to lift others up.
Combine social work knowledge with a variety of theoretical concepts from psychology, sociology, political science, education, economics, and biology to make a difference in the lives of those you help.
The Taylor social work program is accredited through the Council on Social Work Education (CSWE). Your degree will prepare you for social work licensure in any state per their regulatory requirements. With a bachelor's degree in social work from Taylor, you can move into a professional position upon graduation or complete a master's in social work in one calendar year.
You will become a lifelong learner, integrating your Christian values with professional social work values. Taylor’s Social Work faculty will prepare you for a career in social work—helping people at an individual, familial, organizational, or communal level—or to then pursue a master’s degree in social work (MSW).
Our graduates have attended the following graduate schools to receive their master’s in social work:
Alumni have become school social workers, medical social workers, therapists (LCSW) and social work faculty. Taylor’s emphasis on global awareness has prepared these social workers for wherever God has called them. The Social Work program has a 100% career placement rate. Every student that has completed our social work program in the last four years has found a job, internship, or graduate program within six months of graduation.
Dr. Deborah Stiles, Social Work Program Director, speaks about the variety of opportunities you will have as a Social Work major at Taylor.
All senior Social Work students are required to participate in a practicum experience.
The Measured Assessment Plan contains a summary of the assessment results of recent years of Social Work graduates. Assessment outcomes are reported and updated regularly.
If you live or plan to work outside of Indiana, please see the Social Work Professional Licensing Board/Agency for your state.
The Sociology program is home to students interested in studying the behavior of individuals within societal systems and understanding the roles of family, work, and government in our communities and lives.
The Sociology program has a placement rate of 100%. Every student who has gone through our program in the last four years has started a job, internship, or graduate program within six months of graduation.
As a Sociology student, you will cultivate your intellectual curiosity, develop your research skills, and experience learning beyond the traditional classroom setting through our planned trips to correctional facilities, homeless shelters, and refugee centers. By asking challenging questions about the world around you, you will cultivate a heart for social and biblical justice and a curiosity for complex social issues.
One of the most unique aspects of our program is the one-on-one attention you will receive from our faculty. Our department’s small size allows the development of mentorship relationships between our faculty and students. Understanding your personal passions and goals helps faculty to direct and individualize your experience and education. Whether you are in the classroom researching and defending your thoughts and ideas or off campus gaining real-life experience, we are here to help you formulate a biblical view of the social systems around you.
Some of our graduates have gone on to study further at the following schools’ graduate programs:
Whether you want to work with individuals in need or as a researcher in academics, we will prepare you for whatever path you choose. Our students often continue their education in graduate schools, work in ministry settings, or join social service agencies. The Sociology program also offers valuable preparation for careers in journalism, politics, public relations, business, or public administration.
