Bring together your passion for storytelling and teaching.
In a time of teacher shortages and budget cuts in education, interdisciplinary-trained educators are more needed now than ever before. By integrating disciplines of Theatre, English, and Education, you’ll be ready to meet a real need in schools.
In many communities, especially in rural communities, schools cannot afford to hire a Theatre teacher or may task an English teacher with directing school plays. For the English teacher that wants to be equipped to direct fabulous school plays, the Theatre educator who wants supplemental training to stand out in the job market, or the multi-passionate individual that wants to train up the next generation in the art of storytelling, Taylor’s English & Theatre Education major just might be for you.
With this dual licensure Bachelor of Science, you will be certified to teach both Theatre and English across 6-12th grade programs. Taylor’s Theatre & English Education major is the only dual-licensure program in the state of Indiana and the only in the Council for Christian Colleges and Universities (CCCU). It’s a unique opportunity for you to stand out in the job market and meet real needs today’s schools.

Career Opportunities:
Each Theatre & English Education major is required to participate in one Taylor Theatre production per year. Students can choose to be involved through acting, set design, directing, costume and makeup, and more.

A Taylor liberal arts education will prepare you to live and work in a fast-changing world. It also goes a step further: laying a strong spiritual foundation that cultivates wisdom. You’ll become a well-versed individual, equipped with critical thinking skills, a lifelong love of learning, and an appreciation for God’s creation.
You will be trained in approaches to teaching English and Theatre. All Theatre/English Education majors complete a semester of full-time student teaching during their senior year.
In your Theatre classes, you will develop skills in acting, stagecraft, management, and play direction as well as consider biblical foundations of theatre arts and face difficult questions in the pursuit of Truth.
Your English classes will prepare you to hone your creative and analytical writing skills, learn different approaches to literary criticism, and develop an understanding of grammar and composition.
You’ll also take Education courses to prepare you for servant-leadership and running a classroom. These courses provide training in educational psychology, classroom management and discipline, and assessment methods for middle and high school classrooms.
One reviewer said, “By integrating Theatre and English, the program not only broadens students' skill sets but also opens doors to interdisciplinary learning and creative expression. The innovative approach demonstrates a forward-thinking mindset and a dedication to addressing real-world educational needs.”
“I'm excited to graduate fully certified in both English and Theatre, with comprehensive training in both. I love both subjects, so it's incredible to get the chance to study both! What I do on and off-stage informs how I think about literature, and the literature I read supports my work in the theatre.
