Art
at Taylor

Art is not limited to beautiful pictures. It tells tales, makes statements, and pursues truth through visual storytelling.

Take Your Art from Concept to Career

Taylor’s Art department is housed in the 38,000-square-foot Modelle Metcalf Visual Arts Center. Metcalf provides specialized classrooms and workspaces for:

  • drawing, painting
  • printmaking
  • graphic design
  • photography
  • sculpture
  • ceramics
  • jewelry making

Discuss works displayed throughout the hallways. The center also includes:

  • state-of-the-art Mac lab
  • audio-visual classrooms
  • photography studio
  • lecture hall

Two different gallery spaces showcase student and professional art. Naturally lit classrooms offer plenty of space for student artwork, with an option of directed spot lighting.

We are offering five new Bachelor of Fine Arts (BFA) degree options:

  • Illustration
  • Design
  • Photography
  • Studio Art 2D
  • Studio Art 3D

With a BFA program, you get a deep focus on practical studio work for greater technical mastery and aesthetic sensitivity.

Earning this credential can give you a competitive edge in the job market. It is also a natural pathway to a Master of Fine Arts.

Taylor’s BFAs in Art offers:

  • 14 more credits of art classes than the Bachelor of Arts
  • more immersion, cross-training, and versatility
  • no foreign language requirements
  • the same 128-hour graduation requirement as most other degrees

As a Taylor art student, you can meet leaders in the art field by participating in internships, practicums, or residencies. Some places our students have gained valuable career experiences in art include:

  • Animal Planet
  • Esquire Magazine
  • Fort Wayne Museum of Art
  • Green Circle Growers
  • Harrison Center for the Arts
  • Indiana Arts Commission
  • Kanakuk Kamps
  • OneCreate Commercial Photography
  • Orb Aerospace
  • Samaritan’s Purse
  • She Reads Truth
  • South Bend Art Museum
  • The Woodstock Center for Photography
  • Tippecanoe Arts Federation
  • Tyndale House Publishers
  • USA Today
  • Wired Magazine
  • Zondervan

Our students successfully compete with art school graduates for high-profile positions. As a student in this program, you will develop excellent technical and conceptual skills in your area of focus. You will also come away from the program with a professional portfolio of work.

Some roles our graduates work in include:

  • art educators
  • freelancers
  • graphic artists
  • photographers
  • studio artists (sculptors, ceramists, painters)

At Taylor, our art program graduates are regularly sought after by alumni and employers. Some of our art graduates work for high-profile companies and publications such as The New Yorker, Tyndale Publishers, Wired Magazine, and more.

  • Adobe Premiere
  • DaVinci Resolve
